May of this year.

For Hilary and Mary

evening air a blanket
newly washed in lavender

do we need more than that

subtle kiss of lilac
gentle spray of birdsong

sweet May salutation

cloud-tears lately loosed

railing of the atrium

cold to the hand

rain-blotted lozenges

dark leaves nodding
in a slumbrous dusk

The perfect poem to read on a withering July day. You gave me a moment's respite, beautiful lines.

I hope Hilary and Mary appreciate this. Says so much with so few words: Words placed so that the spaces between them whisper about even more.
