Philip Larkin and the Hokey-Pokey
The hokey-pokey came to be
In September of '74.
Others find it fun, but me,
I say: a bloody bore.
Your mum and dad drop you at school,
You play their stupid game,
You hokey-pokey like a fool,
And then you end up lame.
You stick your foot in, take it out,
You shake it till it's numb,
Your mates might laugh and even shout:
It's all so fucking dumb.
You do the hokey-pokey and
You turn yourself around,
But what's the use, when in the end
You're six feet underground.
