Five Short Poems
(i)
The low pertussis of the coffee-maker
is in the home stretch. It isn't Luden's
or NyQuil that quietens this cough.
(ii)
Moths in my bedroom:
an Ivy Leaguer's
grammatical flubs.
(iii)
To what shall I liken you,
summer? Heavy politics,
a share at a meeting
that goes on far too long.
(iv)
Night's vast black
is tickled to felicity
by a handful of stars.
(v)
What I know about opera
can fit inside a thimble
with room to spare, but
Sabine Devieilhe and
Marianne Crebassa
singing the Flower Duet---!
