Scorching heat of June, saps away all your energy, but with the very first shower of Monsoon your spirits rise...I just love the heavenly smell of dry earth when first raindrops kiss it...

First Monsoon Shower

Scorched summer nights are still,
Canaries are quite,
Infernal silence reigns the night,
Sinking spirits.
Restive soul...
Moon is losing all the hope...

Loneliness to top it all....
Why do I miss you, tonight of all?

Why does your memory begin to crawl
back into my heart at all?
Softly do your footsteps fall,
Echo in my memory-hall...

Memories of rendezvous in spring
Begin to softly touch my skin
You start to creep under my skin:
Warmth of another kind
In my soul begins to climb

Spreads instantly like wild fire
Like a dry-jungle-bush-fire
Vapours hot begin to rise
Nimbus clouds quietly conspire,

From somewhere blows a cool zephyr,
The Koel suddenly hoots with desire.

Monsoon begins to assemble
its equipage of rain together.
Sky suddenly becomes overcast
And my heart begins to dance...

Now the raindrops begin to fall,
Parched Earth eagerly takes in all
Fragrance off Earth after first shower,
Heavenly! Leaps from bower to bower...

Smell of earth casts a spell on my spirits
And my heart, my soul, my body,
Can no longer remain steady....

As the parched earth begins to drench
My longing heart begins to clench,
I am one desire- body and soul-
And yearn for you ever more and more

Zoya, when I read the title to this piece, I understood what potential this poem could hold if done properly. But you did not disappoint. It flows elegantly gorging itself in beautifully romanticised images that just bloom and cradle the life of the piece in every line. The language is wonderfully expressed and delightful. A favourite...;)

Dear Zoya I have to agree with Katy, this is one of your best! And that title, oh my, you are an inspiration and I can see the beauty between the poem lines.

I love the two first paragraphs, it ripped my heart out. You as me find strenght and cover in the moonlight, the moon as our mother. Dear friend, your words is as deep as the deepest ocean, and please, let your waves of wisdom come to my shore, so my body and mind can bath and be filled with that wisdom of yours.

Yours forever

Tina

Yes, daer Dan,

Opening lines of Waste Land say it all:

"April is the cruellest moth, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull rots with spring rain."

Gorgeous. If the monsoon were a beautiful statue from antiquity, you are its skilled sculptor, its mother.
((hugs))
Arti.
PS - can I read the urdu version too? I dont read Urdu, but I can understand the language.

Wow! I have never seen a Monsoon coming, but I can recognize so well the feelings you describe! So many times I have been feeling them in my very heart and soul!
It is so beautiful, how you weave feelings and emotions into the atmosphere created by the weather. Absolutely, a great read!
