yesterday i wanted

all the things to go right

yesterday i wanted

to direct the play

to make traffic flow

like a well-conducted symphony

yesterday i wanted

laws to be enforced

rules to be applied

standards to be upheld

commandments to be kept

but

this morning

as yet unbegun

i want something softer

today i plead

for something gentle

something tender and new

today at this moment

i pray to Her who tells me

all shall be well

today may i have the grace

the courage to falter

to glory in the faltering

today let me be brave

to take the low the humble place

to which Compassion summons me

today let me pay attention

today let me receive

today i vow

to be reckless

and lighthearted

today i shall love

and do what Love wills
