Hugo Simberg - "Sårad ängel" (Haavoittunut enkeli) (1903), Ateneum, Helsinki.

The wounded angel (Aliena's challenge)
- Let the moon shine bright
under the midnight sky
Outside the window
lovers share a goodnight kiss
The shadows are still playing mind games
on my bedroom walls
I remember your tender embrace
when you wrapped your lips
around my heart
and said
- I love you. . .
I can see the lovers' silhouettes as they apart
- I miss you already, she yells
- I miss you too honey!
On my bedroom wall the shadows
are still playing moments from the past
When I touched heaven
When I touched your body
I turn on the lights
and take a look at my reflection.
What I have become with you;
a shadow of myself
I turn off the lights, again. . .
Lie in my bed and whistle in the dark
the shadows come to life
and tell me:
- All that pain you feel
there is only one way to make it stop
Come with us and you will live forever
in those sweet memories of yours
I sigh while I look outside my window
the lovers are gone now
there is nothing left but darkness
- I miss my love so much, I whisper
and take a step closer to the world of the shadows
But from the corner of my eye I see the tail of a bleeding wing
I take a step back and see an angel lying in my bed
bleeding. . .
- What happened sweet angel? Why are you bleeding?
Why did you come to my house?
- For you I would live and die thousand times;
I am the star that fallen when you took your first step
towards the world of shadows. . .
I did what I had to do in a moment of despair. . .
Live now, live forever but never in the past. . . Remember me. . .
The angel closed her eyes as she fainted;
I took a look at her angelic face
and understood what really matters in life.
My shadow and I are taking her back to mother earth. . .
Thank you my sweet guardian angel
You sacrifice was not in vain
