I just finished watching Grease - You're The One That I Want and I was impressed by one of the contestants named Juliana Hansen who came across to me as the girl next door so I wrote this poem about her and all the girls next door.

The Girl Next Door

The room is dark
Except for one light
Shining on you
The music grows
Swelling into a life of it's own
I look into your eyes
You sing songs with the voice of an angel
With a face only God could have given you
Eyes full of love and pain
Wearing a dress made of silk and shiny rhinestones
You share your life with those who never knew you
But I knew you long ago
You were all knees
Pigtails down to your shoulders
Silver braces in a gawky smile
We played day after day
A tree house built for your brother
Our hideaway from our parents
Bloody elbows and blackened eyes
Talking about frogs and friends
A hug once in a while
And a single kiss on the cheek
I look at you on the stage
Hundreds of flowers at your feet
Your name written a thousand times a night
Those around you love you
But I am the one who knows you
As the girl next door
My friend with pigtails down to her shoulders

Come to think of it Rob, there is a little girl in every famous actress there on the stage; I am reminded of that dialogue in ' Notting Hill' where Julia Roberts says, 'I am just a girl, asking you to love her'...
Thanks for the lovely poem!

What a wonderful memory. If when all is done, our lives are just our memories then you will have a treasure to recall. Very thoughtfully and simply written. Knowing she is there as a woman and free but holding her in your thoughts as the friend she was. Wonderful.

Thanks for sharing this
