a rough draft

Poison

I have lost my taste for love songs
I can nearly never cry anymore

and though I feel and look more alive than I have for years
more happy
a deafening cold is wrapping itself around me
veining itself into my heart

I give myself to the world
and the world wraps it's arms around me

a sour, bitter taste of giving up on ever loving again
a dull, aching, nauseating pain knowing they never wanted me

only loved
cared for
protected

never see me
or feel able to accept the burden of holding my heart while it beats

yet they seem to keep lining up outside my door
Leave! It is not me you are looking for!

I only remind you of her

The short stanzas, the variation in line length, the unexpected nature of your words and the subtle way you have with them is compelling. Your poems comes as thoughts do—naturally, without artifice.
