white roses

clowns without makeup
flawless faces wilting with time
american flag draped across a donkey

they say the queen doesn't like white roses,
so we have to paint them red,
hide what they really are
to satisfy her desires

but i see clowns without makeup
roaming the streets near the county fair
they're showing their true colors:
whoever saw a red nose anyway?
and what is so beautiful about red roses?

they say the queen doesn't like white roses
