A brilliant dressmaker lost to Alzhiemers almost 13 years ago.

Just Mum

Small, permed, opinionated,
at the sink pinny on,
spuds appealing
roast for Bill.

Nets all set to twitch
hanging neatly
tidy house,
but don't open the cupboards!

Fingertip talent,
reels and spools,
rhythmic treadle,
concentration unfolds.
creativity, imagination.

A button tin
and newspaper patterns,
pins, hemming,
needles, thimble and thread.

Efficiency,
hard worker, on the go
houseproud and home maker,
iced buns on Friday.

Treats and coffee and cake,
shopping, easiness between us,
uncontrollable laughter,
I still remember it all
through the lost days.

I like this a lot. I get the feeling that the terse, clipped lines reflect the way your mom was: businesslike, matter-of-fact, at least, much of the time.

Your Mum sounds like the ideal Mum, its good you have these memories that aren't ruined by illness, I can smell her home cooking from here!

I was going to say that this is a lovely tribute, but Elle said that already, so instead I will say that this paints a beautiful picture and is very sad.

So sad to had to lose all that to Alzhimers and then to lose her again to death, but then you had already lost her.
It is a cruel disease. I am glad you have such good memories of her. I bet you had the prettiest dresses of all.your friends!! :)

This is a lovely tribute to your mum, I wish I could think of something better to say but it is touching and painful and real
