Who am I?

I wasn't who I could be
and not who I am,
I saw myself somewhere
and tried to be more you
until me ran out.

I glimpsed myself
around the corner,
blossoming by the roadside,
you trod on me,
you didn't see.

You're asking the right question, and you'll have to hear what you say.

This seems very real to me, stepping out of yourself, surprised at what you find. Very, very well written.

"until me ran out" is such a good phrase. It can happen from trying to be more like someone or it can happen for other reasons; we lose ourselves.

Ooh I like this. This is so relevant to so many. I read it as a relationship issue, possibly a younger, more timid, as yet inexperienced version of you and being led by one who was willing to let you become dependent on their selfish love.

That's my take. Hopefully, you grew back stronger after your trampling.

You are you - your self - one of the many - that came before - you
The you of from what was - is now - you are you - fore all of that
Remain who - what you are - gain the strength - fore all of that
