A free verse of growing up.

The Fear of Responsibility

Responsibility spooked me like a ghost,

Terrified of my own accountability.

Discipline dreaded my conscience,

Realizing that punishment was mandated.

Duties frightened my lazy mind,

Knowing that obligations had to be fulfilled.

Waking up to a scary reality,

That I had to grow up and become serious.

The route to adulthood was exhausting,

Yet a rewarding task filled with excitement.

I am glad you realized the last two sentences. There are things that are worth that sacrifice and the rewards will be plenty and satisfying. i think it is called growing up, and not everyone achieves it. Congratulations. :-)
