A free verse poem of repenting.

Forgiveness

The sword of fury stabs us in the back,
Sparking the fire by resentment.

Flames ignite into a huge grudge,
With hatred burning in our eyes.

If a person repents their past sins,
Eradicate the arson of fueled anger.

Life is too short to scorch in rage,
A blaze that depletes the quality of life.

I couldn't agree more. Forgiveness doesn't mean you approve of the behavior of the one being forgiven, but it's letting go of the resentment and anger that is eating one up. Forgiveness is for ourselves, for our survival and our mental health.
