Tender Mercies
Tender mercies follow me
as through this life I travel.
I wander through the lonely paths
and stumble through the bramble.
But during all the while I walk,
I talk with you each mile.
Your answer carries through the breeze;
reassurance makes me smile.
I see your love upon the faces
of babes in their mother’s care.
I see your peace in the old folks
who rest in their rocking chairs.
I hear you whisper quietly
through the gentle bubbling brook.
I see your power clap thunderously
As you write my name in your book!
I wonder why you care so much for me
as in my meditation I linger;
For you know every hair on my head
and each wrinkle on my fingers.
Every action and thought you have
is for my eternal soul.
How do I understand this love
that is far beyond what I could know?
So as I live this life of mine,
I only hope to leave a trail
Of a bit of you in each one I meet
as over life’s seas I sail.
Please help me Lord to shine,
as you have polished this vessel I wear,
To reflect the tender mercies,
that you bestowed on me with care.
