a couple of reptile rascals

Lenny and Tony - Sellers of Sin

Once upon a time
Down a long and dusty road
Hurried Lenny Lizard
And his buddy Tony Toad.

Two very sleazy reptiles
They were in character and style
Who worked their scams daily
While they traveled the dusty miles.

The truth did not matter
To Lenny and his friend
For they were on a mission
Selling cures in bottled sin.

And now they have entered
Into a small desert town.
Oasis it is called by the few
Who come to hang around.

The first stop was the pool hall
So cool and dark inside.
Lenny and Tony made a sale
To a scorpion named Clyde.

So Clyde took the potion
And drank it in one gulp.
He chewed his way through the bottle
And turned the label into pulp.

All patrons in the hall
Were amazed by his prowess.
They all bought a portion
Then sipped it down in their quest

Well Lenny and Tony
Made a fortune in one stop.
They sold out the merchandise
And then in rushed the cops.

Whistles were blowing
As the critters scattered about.
I heard there was a brawl
And the cops were all thrown out.

There's nothing but a ghost town
No pool hall, no patrons, just dust
For all the animals ate each other
With a ravenous raging lust.

However, it has been said
And I have heard it told
That two reptiles with reputations
Killed the town with what they sold.

Be leery of  all sellers
Of rumors, lies, and deceit
And never buy a bottle
From lizards and toads off the street.

why did the fox eat the chicken, while crossing the river when he promised he would not? Because a fox is always a fox no matter what he tells you.

:) This sent me to the far west... in a figurative context which some personal experiences felt in line with. Really enjoyed how you put forth this story... the characters sprung to life. Thanks.

Dear Kathy,

What a great melodic verse... I read it with a snakebite cocktail in my hand!

I'll write soon with news of Robert Burns and Kathleen Ferrier.

Cheers, Chris

It's easy to sell sin, but it's the Devil's deal, eh?
