The Promise Leaf
Darcy, child of naturelittle girl of the woods
Three year old in plaid
dark braids hanging past your shoulders
dark eyes roaming in wonder
as you follow Mother's steps
down a narrow stony path
with Jakiepoo at your side
panting and waging his tail
Picking up an autumn leaf
of red and yellow hue
you run to catch your Mommy
as she nears a stream
With bright eyes of excitement
you present your treasure with pride
"It's a Promise Leaf Mommy"
you say with great expectation
"Put it in the water
and it will make everyone happy"
And so you toss it in and watch
as it floats contently downstream
Jakiepoo spins with joy
barking his approval
And Mommy and Darcy do a happy dance
in the sunbeam shining through the trees
proving your Promise Leaf true
