Since Christmas Day, I've been spending my time with three canine companions: Butch(Mutt), Penny(Pit), and Bar (German Shepherd). All are rescues and are my granddogs. I just met Bar on Christmas Morning. It's been my pleasure.

Purposeful and Pure Dog Sense

People often do not make sense

But dogs do

It is simple with them

Sensing is smelling, hearing, and being

Belonging to a pack is purposeful and pure

There's no gossip

No lying

No denying of wrongs

All live in accordance of harmony

When the leader remains strong

Nature is balance

Mankind, having choices, chooses to protect self

Often disturbing the balance of nature

Who are the teachers?

The rulers?

The caretakers?

The imperfect take care of the perfect.

Who are we kidding?

Shall we humble ourselves and walk with light steps

As we commune with all our companions...

Perhaps then, we will earn the privilege of choice.

Wow. I read this and almost wept. Then I scrolled up and saw the photo...then I did. Bless you, we need more people like you, I loved the poem.

Your writing conveys so much, so well, and with so much of your unique style.

These lines were powerful and timely:

"All live in accordance of harmony
When the leader remains strong"

Truly, it made me think we, all of humankind, have failed, become too complicated, too quick to willfully disregard what is good and natural.

This poem is about dogs, yes, but it, to me, is about potential—what we as a people, and we as individuals could be, or possibly can be.

I do love that third-to-last line, "Shall we humble ourselves and walk with light steps ..." There's something ineffably perfect about it, both the phrasing and the rhythm and the certainty (even in questioning!) ...

Beautiful analogy. I love dogs and their nature. They seem like the perfect creatures to me. Maybe a strong, wise, kind leader is what will make our lives more serene.
