Missing my father one day this is what I imagined I would say to him...asking for a picture of Heaven

Paint Me A Picture

Paint me a picture of what heaven looks like.
Are there fields of daffidols that run miles long?
Are there butterflies dancing throughout the morning sky?
Are the colors of a rainbow vibrant and bright?
I imagine heaven being all the beauty of the world rolled up in one place.
I imagine you singing and laughing with God himself.
I imagine all of our loved ones gathered together.
Paint me a picture of what heaven looks like.
Are there sunsets that light up the sky?
Are there birds that sing the loveliest songs?
Are there waves that carress the seashore?
I imagine heaven is a better place because you're there.
I imagine heaven being lit up bright by your smiling face.
I imagine no time in heaven and being lost in every moment.
So please paint me a picture of what heaven looks like.
And send it to me in a dream.
For it may be the very last gift I get from you,
Because tomorrow is never promised!

Christopher Fernie The PoetBay support member heart!
Dear Shannon Ann Britto,

I lost my own father when I was 11, watching him die at home having suffered a heart attack. I was numbed by the shock, and it took several more years for me to be able to articulate my feelings of loss and wonder through poetry (and other writing).

Like you, I still love my father - I myself am 65 by the way - and have praised his memory in several poems. Your poem is a celebration of his life, and as such, he has achieved immortality in your heaven.

Thank you for enabling me to remember my own dad.

With best wishes,

Chris
