it is so somber when it rains and it's cold and the leaves are falling

the last leaf of autumn

like dropping folds of cloth

a life

swirling, gently go

lilting, sway

piece by piece

cupped bowl of tears

dripping down amber cheeks

catching light

pearlescent frostings etched at dawn

the last leaf of autumn

lays to rest

in quiet submission

Beautiful! I see it as relief, for the last leaf, finally accepting change - which has come to all - and letting go!
