This is a poem/song I wrote about the first meeting of my parents, their life together on earth, and their lives together through eternity. My son created the music. Wrote this 4/29/05 from my daddy's perspective.
The Ballad Of Amos and Daisy
I first saw your face in a cradle small.
I didn't know the meaning of it all
because....
you were just you and I was just me.
We're passing through eternity.
We're passing through eternity.
The years passed; we both grew.
I looked at you and then I knew
a girl like you was meant for me.
God carved our names into a tree
because....
you were just you and I was just me.
We're passing through eternity.
We're passing through eternity.
A promise was made; our home was begun.
The children came one by one.
The roses grew with thorns by their side.
Our love endured; staying alive
because....
you were just you and I was just me.
We're passing through eternity.
We're passing through eternity.
We struggled each day, making ends meet.
The babies still came, each one so sweet.
Our family grew as our faces did age.
Our bodies changed with each turning page
because....
you were just you and I was just me.
We're passing through eternity.
We're passing through eternity.
The book of our life grew everyday.
The words written down paving the way
to our passing from life through death's door,
each at our time, you went before
because....
you were just you and I was just me.
We're passing through eternity.
We're passing through eternity.
I stayed her awhile longing for you.
My desire finally came when I went home too...
~~~~~~~
I first saw your face surrounded by light.
You reached for my hand; our future is bright
because....
you were just you and I was just me.
We're passing through eternity.
We're passing through eternity.
They were married 69 years and had 9 children, 29 grandchildren, more than 30 greatgrands, and great greats are coming at a rapid pace. Amos H. Lockhart was 94 years old when he died March 2002 and Daisy B. Lockhart was 85 when she died December 1999. I was priviledged to be their daughter and to be there at both of their passings. I will see them again.
