found by son, Matthew, dead this morning. I‘m walking in a fog. We were to spend the day together before he went back to Texas. I am posting this because I can‘t get the image out of my head. ive written other poems about my boy.
My Son No Longer Shines
My baby laid on the floor
his face was cold as stone
My baby laid on the floor
his lips cried out alone
I laid down by his side
to try and warm his soul
I laid down by his side
to never let him go.
And when he didn‘t wake
I pumped his heart in vain
And when he didn’t wake
my tears began to rain
Oh God, my baby‘s dead!
my son no longer shines
The world‘s turned upside down
And hope’s run out of time.
