Death to Life

Caked in itchy mud
I can feel the tingling sensation of wriggling maggots
my skin drying and tightening against what I soak in

The air is hot, too thick to breathe
my chest tight, I'd cry, but my heart has gone dry
my mind muddled and foggy

I feel the unbearable longing though

and seek out the roaring torrent
subdue my groggy body and pull myself down to my knees
reaching out my hands to the gentle spray
of that mighty waterfall

As my skin softens I pull myself closer
drink deep and feel the chill awaken my mind and breathe life to my pounding heart

My soul brightens and warms
glowing in tune with the beating torrent
as it turns into a column of fire

pulling at me,
bringing my love to roaring life

I am the oxygen consumed
in these glorious flames
