Endless
Sometimes, there are endless conversationsabout nothing and everything,
all those things that mean nothing
and oh so much.
About moons aligning and what
colour shoes should go with
a classic wedding dress, too much
to little and never enough
the crocus on the college grounds
and how the paving on the campus
is so uneven that a pirouette never works
and when the wind blows
however flattened your hair
it still goes wild.
Sometimes and always, occasionally never
there are dances and songs
chic winter clothes, spices in the air.
A summer of sunshine and a winter of tears
songs, and snagging on the corner of doors
Smart shoes, silly shoes and shoes
that do nothing but just look good.
Twirls on the landing, shush in the office
skittering on the polish, a soft shoe shuffle
always and never, sometimes forever
dreams left on hold.
