Clear and Generous
When I could no longer
stomach the preachiness
of the older fellow's share,
I slipped out of the basement
of Our Lady of Lourdes Church
and walked into the parking lot
under clear and generous starlight.
A February night just cold enough
to bring me back to life.
I said my Joyful Mysteries
on a set of small black beads.
I stood facing the church
and a stained-glass rendering
of Bernadette and Our Lady
faintly illumined from within
by a serene and steady glow.
