We open a new calendar sheet, and here comes Grandma Martha.
March is Women's Month, and let's welcome it with a smile.
Today, according to an old Bulgarian custom, we will hang out with martenitsas to be white and red as the martenitsas symbolize health and a new beginning, love, and blessing in the home the fields.
Legend had it that many centuries ago, Khan Asparuh received the news that his first child had been born, and he sent a letter to his beloved to thank her, but the bird was injured during the long flight and the white thread with which the letter was attached turned into the red from the bird's blood.
And in some places, the thread was white and in others red, and that's where today's martenitsas come from.
Happy new month, be alive and healthy, everyone.
May Grandma Martha be better for all of us and stop the war in Ukraine and Russia.
