TV, When I Was Young

VHF and UHF. Fiddling with antennas.
The Movie Loft on Channel 38.
I got to see how Boston looked back in the day
With The Friends of Eddie Coyle,
The Thomas Crown Affair, Six Bridges to Cross.

The Great Entertainment on Channel 5.
Old-school mysteries. Sherlock Holmes
Starring Basil Rathbone. Charlie Chan

With Sidney Toler or with Warner Oland,
And Keye Luke as Number One Son.

Back then, I didn't consider the crudeness

Of the racial caricature. I loved the stories.

Saturday night "thrillers" imported from Britain
Starring Joanna Lumley, invariably.

Sidney Poitier's triple crown from 1967,

Those three amazing films: In the Heat of the Night,
Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, and To Sir with Love.
Tracy and Hepburn. Adam's Rib.
Peter Boyle as Tail Gunner Joe.
Jon Voight in a heavily edited Midnight Cowboy
Which bored me insufferably when I tried to watch it.
Then, if I had been up all night, I'd usher in the new day
With Insight, In Good Faith, and Chronicle rebroadcasts.
