Square Foot of Ground
late leaves mottled with age
stones blotched with weather
patched with moss
a stray flake of clear glass
grassblades in a thin cluster
of exhausted growth
one pinecone nestled
in the dimple of a rock
sunlight gracing indifferent pebbles
innumerable pine-needles
lifeless and dun
