This may be upsetting, the truth is hard to handle for some folk.

Could do better

Art in all its forms should make you think,
Move you, inspire you, and bring you joy,
Some poetry lacks input, lacks a meaning,
If all you have to say is the beauty of a flower,
Or the joy of a new born baby’s face,
And the love of your life,
Then move on,
You are not making a point,
You are not breaking new ground,
You are not asking your reader to form an opinion,
Yes, it may be well intended,
It may well give you pleasure to write,
But as a reader I’ve seen it all before.

If I may, I can see both sides of this coin. Maybe its simply personal preference, some poetry appeals to different folk. For myself, I'm not immediately engaged by confessional poetry of love and relationships, especially when it goes on too long. But I would also say that the best criteria is the skill in the writing.

I disagree. On this forum especially, all subjects and writing styles are sacrosanct. I may find one post rather facile and another overly obtuse but it is my choice to read, possibly comment and potentially learn from these. It is the writers choice to post and learn from the comments or simply from reading other posts. This is a place of growth for all who partake here.
