Cigarette Dream
Suppose that all your world
Was only a cigarette dream
Incomplete secret regrets
With nothing but your heart to lose
Just an arrow lost in smoke rings
Rings of sorrow wreaths silvery blue
Formed into couplets shaped like promises
Or calling cards
Blank, forget names
Overdrawn Love's forfeiture
History's ersatz enamour
A run on the banks
Where some souls swim forever
Cashing in tickets of word
Less is more, nothing left to redeem
Suppose that all your world
Was only a cigarette dream...
