They're Back

I don't see Jesus hobnobbing here, dressed in a suit
And munching on shrimp. I don't see him trying
To overthrow Caesar or grubbing for money or damning
And cursing the already put-upon outcasts and meek.
He cared for such people. He wasn't so fond
Of the hucksters who profit by speaking his name.
He came once before with a whip and ejected these
Sorts from the temple, but now they've returned, while he's
Just an image applied to a geegaw pitched to the gullible
After they eat.
