Down the Road Apiece
This morning I assess my waist,
appreciative of my regular road bike haste
My shape appearing dandy and fine,
at 75 I'm surprised it's mine
Can stay on roller skis longer than long,
accompanying myself with some funky sort of song
I take to the road without further ado,
repaying hi to me with a hello to you
In fact, aren't we all very much alike,
whether we choose roller skis or a mountain bike?
One and all, we're hitting it down the road,
looking out for any crossing snake or toad
Exercise is the capitalized name of the game,
climbing, running, biking or skiing all the same
The body is a motion machine,
so train it naturally muscular and lean
to return back home, all endorphin rich,
it'll give your poetry a fabulous hitch!
You'll get ideas never known to exist,
exciting phrases rising out of the mist,
some of which you even might publish here,
so training is a tip for foe and for dear
Yes, the body is supposed to earn its keep
moving and straining before a good night's sleep
