Lesson 4
Green, how I want you green.Green like the Goa sea that shocked you
who thought the sea was blue, but once
you swam in it and had the fun
your landlocked being had never known
before it didn’t matter what color
the sea was or ever could be.
Green, how I want you green.
Like the last garden where you spent
your final kiss on a girl you don’t talk to
anymore but who lives endlessly
in some crevasse of your heart and brain
and whose love you’ll carry no matter the towers
you must walk to or walk above, because
Love was and always has been your idol
of worship, regardless of what God or Gods
there be before you, above you, or after,
Love will always be the bright maiden on
some heavenly balcony that you will
woo or want to, while she chides you
playfully, because wanting and desire
have held more weight in your heart than hurt.
My friend, though some think this balcony
has broken down or has been forgotten I’ll tell
the truth, it’s only grown in height and seems
like some tower that stands tall, tip in the clouds,
and she’s there, above the atmosphere waiting
for true lovers to climb and reach her feet.
My friend, I will trade what little of my soul
is still left for climbing gear for the goal is
to reach the top and fall upon her feet,
and wish for forgiveness that I ever thought
I could survive after that first brush with love.
So, I climbed alongside the first good man
who helped me understand just how
to fit my fingers into the tiny gaps
within each brick, and so we climbed
to the top, my fingers bleeding, grated
by the cold of the bricks, the cold of the air,
and the fear of the height I’d already reached.
Green, how I want you green.
Green like the glint of lust, envy and anger
that darkens the heart, and makes it hunger
for what others have. I can’t bear or bare
anything without picturing another
having had it first, but for perhaps now
with my arms too tired but my eyes sharply
looking up, and the goal seeming
so close, I can forgive all else
and simply focus on faring well.
