Lesson 7

Because I could not stop for Death
my lot in life is to live,
and that I’ve done but under my breath,
many wishes have I submit

to Thanatos to take me down
Hades way as Gaia’s green
is too bright for my pallid eyes,
which yearn for blindness and dreams

that are hard pressed to find when living
because living is toil and trouble,
while death, I’ve heard, is one big sleep
unbothered by history’s rabble,

so it’s unfair that I must eat
immortality for one mistake.
I could not stop for Death, and now
eternity is my cursed fate.

I love the way you can transfuse another poets work into your own; and here it has an elegiac quality. Quite brilliant Sameen.
