Lesson 13

The poem must resist the intelligence
asked of it by modern minds, and even
the penchant for sentimentality
demanded of it by the sorrowful youth.

The poem must be truth told slant, told only
for eyes and ears who need to hear it
at that exact moment.

The poem must be. That’s all.
The gaps will be filled by the reader.

The poem must exist. That’s all.
