Reunion, Reception, Birthday, Wake
Should I say that it was fun? Should I lie?
The hoopla, the tensions, the fluid, not ever
Entirely settled, preparations, the sniping
And backbiting, loud drunks, short sleep,
To be followed by another night of the same?
I'm glad to done with it, home to the quiet,
Pledging again to not do it all over, but who
Can have faith in such meaningless pledges?
Someone in the family is destined to beckon,
And I, with misgivings, will go.
