See Farmers for What They Are

The farmer in the valley has his sprinklers on to sustain his crops,
Thirsty expanses of soybeans and corn. They look almost
Festive from over here, but the water he uses comes
Out of the ground. The farmers all pump it. It isn't replaced.
The chemicals sprayed to encourage these plants, and ward off
The bugs and wither the weeds, drains from those fields into
Rivers nearby, killing the fish and everything else, as the farmers
Tell anyone willing to listen that they are the ones who care
Most for the planet. In fact, they're just capitalist monsters in jeans,
Who profit by raping the land.

And fishermen from the sea! My late departed mate used to say this to me all the time. He had a bee in his bonnet about fishermen who take and never give anything back. I digress... A poem of great truth. Thank you for pointing it out Lawrence. Blessings, Allen
