Imagine my ecstasy

only my childhood knows
as I caught sight on the near but remote
of a reptile, in green frog coat, green
as the wheat fields in may. in the kitchen
ceiling, its up- side downness, intrigued
me, how it latched and from where
the giant room, might be seen to loom
upside down upon it. It anchored serenely
in repose still, save a fierce pulse
in the throat, flickering its tongue
at any intruding prey. Mother had
an unfair bias against it
and poked it with a long prod as a pest
and severed its tail that like an asp
wrestled with the truth of its loss
but it did not
struggle to hold on to it as if
showing us how to let go tail of
missed opportunities. Changing colour
into brown stress-struck, it
scuttled, barely leaving footprints
just as fast and slunk under the rug
to a roomier hidden layer that bred it
and its swarms.

Griffonner The PoetBay support member heart!
A very interesting poem. I know the situation; I know its tail will regrow. However the freshness of the rhythm and the 'cunning' rhymes are really good.
