The Time for Grand Aspirations has Passed

I checked. My family's safe and well. I will not ask for more
Than that, my culture having been diminished, coursened,
Rent by hatreds and intolerance. It's time to play the turtle.
From within my shell, I'll be content to watch a nation
In the grip of fools destroy itself. That's for the best.
I wish them great success, so long as those who matter
To me also have the means to withdraw into shells.

we live more and more in an hybrid world
what you call your culture may well be bits of a bigger frame in the future
