It's about the difficulty of letting go, even after it's over.

As we depart

I see the ship you left on,
sinking in the horizon.
To leave only the silver shimmer of the rising moon,
coldly commanding the tides to pull you away
My arms refuse to hold their waves,
as many as the sea's.

Enjoyed the poem, the moon's always ripe for metaphor. Maybe As We Part would be a more apt title.

A profound sweeping away, disappearing into the moon’s pull, pulling further away, grip slipping off in the lapping waves, multitudinous as feathers in flight, none of them stay.
