Lebanon
Tell me about the free fall suicides,
the dare devils the bible forgot
while copying the Babylonian myths,
dark rivers that rise high above
the foothold of Gilgamesh's mountain.
Today there are rivers of tears
in the broken valleys
where once the cannabis spiced the air
and the liver of the dark olive
was esteem beyond the flood.
No shepherd ever strapped
belted death to his day,
nor did any goat go missile
for the sake of a different faith
where Ur did not have an echo.
Shamash! Shamash!
Sumerian ghosts of darkness
can not hold down the spirit
of Inanna. This is her night,
while forgotten villages bleed.
