Confessions Of A Poet At Work
Iclean houses
I am a
scrub lady,
laundress,
wiper of dust,
sweeper, mopper,
a maid if you must
I do dishes
fulfill wishes
for those
who
pay
the price
for a home
that is nice and clean
for a while
I do it with a smile
cause
it pays the bills
it lets me chill
whenever
I am done
I'll drink some wine
lie back so sublime
in a tub
full of soothing
warm
water
and after that...
i often sit
at the computer
in a nook
full of books
and clutter
eating crackers
and peanut butter
while the crumbs
fall
on
the
floor
but I write
and write
some more
while the dust
lies around
this place
waiting for the maid
but
she's overbooked
so I sit in my nook
and look
only
at
this space
with a smile on my face!
