A poem inspired by feelings of boredom during a computer seminar.

Mental Malaise

Boredom...a feeling incarnate; a view clearly sedate;
An energy that freezes the intellect, that stuns curiosity;
That deadens emotional luminosity...Boredom...a creature of habit
When we purposely leave the interests' zone--our minds
Wandering in the desert alone: the desert of dullness,
The desert of absence, joy hiding in the rare shade,
Exuberance an oasis...excitement an illusion;
The level of alacrity being dehydrated...the thirst for knowledge
Not being quenched; the river of vivacity running dry...
The stillness sifts through our thoughts: time is frozen;
The hourglass of our hearts goes through a slow silky motion--
Boredom...an entity that eludes us if we stay in our element...
