Precious Moments with Joey
My grandson Joey was with me today. I had him from 1:00 to 9:00pm.He is four years old in chronological age, but way beyond his years in so many ways. The following are some conversations that we had today.
After driving through Wendy's and picking up our dinner:
"Nana, is there red stuff on my cheeseburger?"
No, Joey there is nothing on your burger.
"Just bread and meat and cheese?"
Yes, that's right.
Do you want catsup on your cheeseburger?
"No, I don't actually like catsup. It tastes yucky!"
At the Dollar Store:
"Wow!" This is cool! Look there is a helmet and a sword and a shield!"
I see that Joey. These are for knights.
Do you want these things?
"Yes, Nana! I need the helmet."
Do you need anything else?
"I need the sword, too."
But you have 2 at home.
"I don't have them here and I need the shield to protect me when I am fighting."
Okay do you want to put them in the cart?
"No, I'll just wear it. People will say I am cool."
You are cool Joey.
At the park. Joey with helmet, sword and shield:
Little girl: "Hey, do you want to play?"
Joey: "Hmmmm, okay."
Little girl: "I will be the princess and you be the knight and you save me and you have to kill the dragon first though."
Joey: "okay."
Joey goes to one leg of the swingset and strikes it as to slay the dragon.
The sword breaks. Joey pulls the helmet down over his face and cries...
Are you alright Joey? I am sorry your sword broke.
"I am sad Nana."
I know that Joey. It's okay to be sad. Just be sad until you are not sad anymore.
"okay Nana"
Are you still sad?
"yes"
"I am ready to leave now."
Do you want to go back to Nana's?
"yes"....
In the car on the way back to my place:
"Can you fix my sword with that real strong sticky tape?"
Yes, I think I can. I will try. Are you still sad?
"No. Are we almost to your apartment"
Just around the corner.
Later that evening. I am preparing for a shower. Joey walks into room and finds his Nana paritally undressed:
"I love you Nana, all the way to Saturn."
I love you too Joey. You need to shut the door now.
" I love you all the way to Disney World."
I love you Joey all the way to the moon and back.
"Wow!"
My heart is full. This little boy never fails to lift my spirits and make the world a better place to live. I am blessed.
Thanks for sharing these moments with me. To me, they are precious.
