When Weary Eyelids Close in Sleep
When weary eyelids pause in sleepAnd waking conscience is subdued,
When everything is dark and deep
At last released: thoughts find their muse.
For in that unencaptured state,
Myriad swathes of light entwine
And dancing free and unrestrained
Paint vivid landscapes on the mind;
Which unimpaired by nature's laws
Are woven in dazzling array -
In impish and fantastic lines
Which tumble in then float away.
But when the fleeting dance is passed
And dreams accept reality's chimes
The only imprint of their work
Are shadowed echoes left behind.
