princess
dreariness followed her like a hungry catprowling the nights of urban streets
searching for its prey, instincts alive
to the sounds and scents of mystery
she turned her head, sighed deeply
and looked to the night sky
following the falling star 'til it flamed out
just like her life in her own eyes
once daddy's darling baby girl
her mother's delight
now she just stumbles along
on the broken sidewalks of life
remembering the good times, sometimes
laughing at the cracks in the walks
mocking the birds with boos and gems
lifting her spirits with meritorious delight
learning to fly with pink people
and steeples that rise and touch the skin
then the mistiness surrounds her like cloud
leaving traces of dew upon her lashes
she licks the moisture from her lips
while she rises up over her reality into
a swirl of dreams of cotton candy dresses
And she listened to the music of the carousel
and the cat was satiated by creation's patience
