I wrote this before we had the world wide web, but it applies.

Webs
Webs are words, webs are nets that capture. I see a white missionary being boiled alive by savage natives. I see someone caught in a web of words, enclosed by love, enclosed in love. There is the cartoon pig of Charlotte's Web. There are spiders, the slow moving hairy tarantulas found in zoos and in the back of pet stores. The spiders in the backyard, large yet delicate, holding onto webs that are silver curtains between bushes. And finally webs are connections, between shores, of words or not.© 2006 Anne Westlund
