The Blue on the Mountain
We washed the water off the rocks on Mt.Rainier, gray rocks, white rocks. Thrown up by glaciers long ago, rocks, boulders, pebbles. Rocks that made the blue on the mountain from far away and the gray and the white. The Cascades, the Olympics. A volcano to the south, but here only water, trees, wind. Birds flying in and out, the color of sunrise, of sunset. Birds in the high clouds and hills. Sadness making the mountain blue.© 2006 Anne Westlund
