This is a poem for a friend.

Bright and Quick

I judge you by your looks
Because that's how I've always
been judged
Even now, even now
And if it didn't please me
I wouldn't say
Because you will be judged unfairly
For that swathe of hair
in your eye
The makeup on the other one
You wear your armor like your smile
Bright and quick
I have no idea. Who are you?
Where are you from?
Where are you going?
You think you only have to pass
a few tests and you will arrive
at some Adult Nirvana
But the testing, judgements
never end
Mine
Yours
A for effort-for both of us.
