It seeks to capture the dile mma and guilt i experienced, fueled by my intellectual training that all snakes are dangerous thus must be killed and my love for nature thus the understanding that all snakes and indeed animals are creatures.

The Snake

With the tail
of the year
vividly in sight
sunny and bright
the day
the harmattan
toothless
on that day
forever imprisoned
be i
by my conscience
'cos
before me two paths

One
spare him!
and be counted
among friends of nature
the other
kill him!
and be counted
among friends of 'few' men

Confused and pressured
negating
my philosophy
i let go
visciously
attacking him!
my first blow
harmless bucket of gasoline
my second blow
blunt matchet

Defying death
hurriedly
home he headed
mysteriously
mother earth
swallowed
him
he escaped!
i lost
