Sanctimoneous Folks
Sanctimoneous folks never recognize themselvesthey are too busy pointing out the short comings of others.
They like to judge without full knowledge,
Relying on the wisdom they believe they have.
Nevermind the facts. They have intuition.
They just know because, you see,
They are holier than me.
Sanctimoneous folks know the rules and will recite them
In case you missed one along the way
Or didn't read them all today.
Don't look for compassion. Don't look for mercy.
They don't have time or the capacity.
They are too full of comparisons, between us and them.
And grace? Why that's just in case Jesus' death was a waste.
Sanctimoneous folks don't like tenderness
It's weak and they are strong. Until they do something wrong.
Oh No! Not them, it was just a little error.
Nothing to speak of, so they won't, unless of course its you or me
And then we have hell to pay. They'll tell us that all day.
Humble? Them? Ha! They won't shed a tear when they hear
"Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so."
Sanctimoneous folks. Will they see on that day, finally?
That it wasn't meant to be, the way they saw God
Looking at the outward and not at the heart?
Will they understand God is working on us all
refining us in the fire, working with us day by day
But loving us all along the way?
I hope and I pray, for all the santimoneous folks.
